PROGRESSIVE STORY
In this topic students will write a progressive story. The Portuguese students are going to begin the story and post it here. Then, the students from the other countries will continue it.We hope it will be fun doing it... and reading it (of course).
Portuguese part of the story:
German part of the story:
Balburcio went white.
Bulgarian part of the story:
Balburcio and Timbutina were very frightened. They had no escape and the only thing to do was to climb a tree but unfortunately trees in the “Forest of Death” were impossible to climb. Then Balburcio saw a tree and they fast ran to it. It seemed the longest seconds of their life.
The animal almost reached them but they were already on the tree and it couldn’t climb it.
- What will we do now? - asked Timbutina frightened and confused.
There was no chance someone to find them because no one ever went to “Forest of Death”. Screaming also wasn’t a good idea because there wasn’t anyone living near the forest who could hear them.
- I think we are safe for now and we’ll think of something and the animal or whatever it is will go away. – said Balburcio trying to calm Timbutina.
But the animal was standing under the tree and was making some strange noise. It began to get darker and darker. Soon it was night and Balburico and Timbutina were getting sleepy but it was very uncomfortable on the tree. In Sun’s village people began to worry why Timbutina and Balburcio were missing. They decided to wait for them some time and then if they didn’t come back to organize a search. When they didn’t show everyone at Sun’s village decided that something bad have happened and went to search for them. After searching everyone without a result people understood that they must be in the “Forest of Death” but no one wanted to go there especially at night. Meanwhile Balburcio and Timbutina were getting cold and desperate. The animal was still under the tree waiting for them.
- I don’t understand why you are afraid to go in this forest. – said Timbutina’s brother. – I’m going and all who stay here are cowards. – he shouted.
Few men joined him and they went to search for Balburcio and Timbutina. Soon they heard strange noise. When they came closer to it they saw some very strange animal standing under a tree. Timbutina and Balburcio were still on that tree.
Portuguese part of the story:
SUN´S VILLAGE
A long, long time ago, at Sun’s village, all the community was resting in the little café at the top of the mountain, the only place that was still illumined by the sunset.
They were happily laughing and chatting when Timbutina heard a sound, that wasn’t at all like the ones that usually surround her.
“Hium…hium…”, she heard. It was a very depressing voice.
Naturally, she got up and started looking for the origin of that bothering sound. After looking almost everywhere, she was about to give up searching when she found a very weird animal, similar to an elephant’s child, hidden on a corner, looking scared and sad…
At first Timbutina was afraid of the animal because it looked strange but then she started feeling sorry for it.
She decided to call her friend Balburcio who was also in the café.
- Balburcio, Balbusrcio, you must help me! – called Timbutina
- What happened? – asked him surprised.
- I found a strange animal over there. – she answered.
- Really? Can you show me? – replied Balburcio.
They walked quickly towards the place where the strange creature was hiding. When they arrived there, they saw nothing….
Balburcio looked at Timbutina suspiciously and said:
- Timbutina, are you sure you saw anything?
- Yes, I am. Maybe it was scared and ran away!
- You must be dreaming! – mocked him.
- No, I’m not. I’m sure I saw something.
They decided to go out and look for the creature.
When they were passing near a dumpster, they heard sounds again. They looked inside and they found the animal.

The anymal didn't look scared or sad anymore!
No, it seemed to be angry, very angry...
and suddenly it opened it's mouth with a loud "wooooooah".
Timbutina screamed.
The animal had so big teeth!!! Was it going to kill them?
- Timbutina, we have to run. Quickly!! - Balburcio shouted.
Then they ran straight into the forest and they knew they shouldn't...
This forest was called the "Forest of Death".
Everybody was so scared about that forest.
Years ago there were some children who ran into it and never came back.
Timbutina and Balburcio ran as fast as they could ..
But was it fast enough?
The animal had climbed out of the dumpster and it came nearer and nearer...

CHRISTMAS IN PORTUGAL
On Christmas Eve Portuguese families gather around the Christmas tree and the Crèche to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Catholicism is the main religion in Portugal.
Many families attend the Midnight Mass (called "Missa do Galo"). After mass they gather around the table and have supper (called "Ceia de Natal"). On Christmas Eve, supper (called "Consoada") consists of codfish with boiled potatoes and cabbage. After the meal, people eat traditional fried desserts: "filhoses or filhós" are made of fried pumpkin dough; "rabanadas" are similar to french toast; "azevias" are round cakes made of a crust filled with a mixture of chick peas, sugar, and orange peel; "aletria" is a vermicelli sweet with eggs (typical of Douro and Minho region). Another traditional dessert is "Bolo Rei". This is a fruitcake that is typically a New Years cake, but is becoming popular during Christmas Holidays. In the cake there are two surprises: one is a little present like a fake ring, or a little doll, or a medal. The other is not as welcomed. There is a raw broad bean. Whoever gets this bean has to buy the "Bolo Rei" in the coming year. In addition to these desserts there are many other that differ from region to region.
In some regions of the country, carolers sing Christmas carols (called "Janeiras") in the streets.
Some families will open the presents (that are displayed around the Christmas tree) on Christmas Eve around midnight. Others open them in the morning of the 25th, Christmas Day. Some families put one shoe ("sapatinho") of each child next to the chimney (since most of the kitchens in Portugal have one) or next to the fireplace instead of a stocking.
On Christmas Day, people eat stuffed turkey for lunch and the traditional desserts.
During the holiday season towns are decorated with lights. The festivities end on January 6, "Dia de Reis".
